Deck, Part 1 & 2 pictures

Here are some pictures of the progress of the deck.

Day 1- Sono tubes in the ground


After the guys poured the posts, it was up to me to put down some landscaping cloth and crushed stone. I could have let them do it, but they wanted to charge $400. It took me 3.5 hours to haul 3 cubic yards of gravel from the driveway to the back of the house... I'm feeling it today!!

After Day 2, most of the framing done.

(Note the beer in the bottom left - that was an empty from me the night before moving all the gravel).

They will be back Monday and Tuesday to finish the job.

Deck - Part 1

The deck guys showed up this morning to start work on the deck. They will be digging the holes and pouring the cement for the posts today, and they will be back tomorrow morning to start building. I'll post pictures as it progresses.

We went with Hickory Dickory Decks. Lots of nice pictures on their website. Finally decided on cedar instead of a composite material as well. Leah and I thought that the composite stuff just looks too "plastic-y", and we really like the look of the natural cedar.

Dad sent me this site. Pretty cool stuff. I especially like the image of Oprah carved into a field (a few pages back). I wonder if we'll see more of this stuff since people now know that Big Brother -errr- Google is watching... :-)

Construction

Panoramic view of the construction behind our house


This is a view of the contruction going on behind our house. They are putting in the road, sewers, water mains, etc., for the next phase of the development Hopefully they won't start building houses there until next year.

The image was made taking 5 pictures (from the 2nd floor of our house), and stitching them together with a program called autostitch. Pretty cool result. Note that these pics were taken March 17th - all our snow is gone. :-) As a matter of fact, I was out raking in a t-shirt tonight. Woohoo!

MSN Messenger 7 has come out of Beta. You can download it here.

Note - you have to use IE to install

New features include Nudges and Winks, and a new Video conversation features which should make Video easier (audio and video are better synchronized and automatic - no more need to click "Start Video" + "Start Audio").

Also, the ability to set your Display Status before you login. :-)
